ABSTRACT

The study on towards improving children's nutrition in Umuahia North Local Government Area was conducted in Umuahia North LGA, Abia State, Nigeria. 410 copies of questionnaires were used to ascertain the data that was used for this study. The data were analyzed using descriptive statistics such as frequency, percentage and means. The result of the findings revealed that the number of female (55.36%) to male (44.74°A) consuming food resources in Univahia North LGA is high. Among all the food resources available, butter (1,237), cheese (1.237), green leaf (1.474), carrot (1.342), Guava (1.447) and salad fruits (1 .474) scarce in Umuahia North LGA. Also among all the meals consumed by children in Umuahia North LGA, fried rice and plantain and banana were least consumed and finally, both staff/teachers and students/pupils agreed largely that the dietary pattern of children can be improved in the following ways as listed in the work. It is recommended that staff/teachers, students/pupils and even government have a role to play to improve the dietary pattern of the children.
