ABSTRACT

 This study was initiated to determine the impact of women education on marital stability in Emekuku, Owerri North Local Government Area of • Imo State, Nigeria. The focus of the study was, to determine the importance of women education in the study area, the factors hindering women education in the study area and the causes of marital instability in the study area. The data were generated by individual interview using questionnaire. 200 respondents were cross examined throughout five communities within the 10 villages in the study area. This was supplemented by secondary data collected from different published and unpublished sources. Percentage was used to analyze the objectives. The results indicated that empowering women, skill acquisition, improvement in family planning, reduction in material and infant mortality, conflict resolution, economics and politics empowerment were the major importance of women education in the study area. Poverty and economic factor, early pregnancy, cultural and religious factors and lack of • infrastructural facilities were analyzed as the factors affecting women education while financial constraint, cultural and religious, lack of • understanding and lack of preparedness were analyzed as the causative agents in marital instability in the study area. Based on the findings, it was recommended, that Government should provide the basic or necessary infrastructural facilities and basic amenities for the improvement and encouragement for women education.
