ABSTRACT

 The study assessed impact of ICT on accounting profession in Nigeria, and specifically evaluated ICT influence on corporate reporting. The study also examined the challenges of ICT on accounting profession with Akwa- Ibom State as the study domain and public and private sector organizations as study unit. A survey research design was adopted and a study sample of 50 was chosen from the study population. Data collected from the study were analyzed using simple percentages while chi-square statistical tool was used to test the hypothesized influence of ICT on financial transaction reporting, the relationship between challenges associated with ICT and accounting profession and the impact of ICT on audit practice in Nigeria. From the study, it was found that ICT impacted on accounting practice in Nigeria'significantly, it was also discovered that ICT significantly influenced financial transaction reporting of corporate entities. Based on the research findings it is recommended that accounting students be equipped from school on ICT packages, the allow to go for Industrial Training in order to be familiar with ICT packages used by accountants, it is recommended that Curriculum planners include ICT education in the curriculum of trainees accountant, Accountant in training should also be exposed to seminar which could advance their knowledge on some of the relevant accounting softwares. Furthermore, Government should supply computers for used by accounting students. Background knowledge of computerization be mandatory for accounting students before graduation. Incentives should also be provided for accounting students by government, NGO's and other organizations to motivate accounting students in the study of ICT as are currently applicable in the accounting profession.
