ABSTRACT

Schluniberger electrode arrangement was used to survey a location of gas plant within Rumukuruosi-Obiakpo Local Government Area of Rivers State. This is with àview to obtaining some subsurface Information on the aquifer characteristics of the area and hence determines its groundwater quality. Four vertical electrical soundings (VES) were made using ABEM Terrameter SAS 300 incorporated with the terrameter SAS 2000 Booster to increase the current in resistivity measurement. Data from the VES were interpreted using computer Iteration interpretation techniques. A five geologic model was obtained indicating different lithologic units of alluvium sand, clay and shale, sandstones, coarse sands and consolidated shale. The first VES has a potential aquifer resistivity of 8300 ~m and thickness 10.2m, the second VES has a potential aquifer of resistivity of 7550 m, the third VES has a potential aquifer of resistivity 14,000 flm and thickness I 19m while the fourth VES has an aquifer of resistivity 1120am with a thickness of 28.lm. The study area is homogenous in hydrologic properties and water quality.
