ABSTRACT

Five materials sorghum bicolor (guinea corn) Pennisetum typhoides (millet), Milicia exedsu (iroko) saw dust; Tectona grandis (leak) saw dust. Grudina arhorea (gmclina) saw dusts were evaluated for spawn production of Pleurotus ostreatus var.llorida. Sorghum bicolor (Guinea corn) produced the best mother spawn with the shortest days (11) of complete colonization and high mycelial density. It was followed by Milica exedsa (Iroko) with (12 days) and a lower mycelial density. Millet had the longest number ol days (15) while Gmdina arborea had no growth at all. From this work it could be suggested that sorghum bicolor is the best grain lor spawn production of Pleurotus species
