ABSTRACT

The study determined the potentials of locally made fabrics as perceived by their dealers in Umuahia Urban. This study identified the potentials, status and factors that influence locally made fabrics. Structured questionnaire was used for the data collection. A sample of two hundred respondents were used who are dealers of locally manufactured fabrics. Frequencies simple percentage and mean were used in analyzing the data. Result from the data revealed that locally made fabrics were preferred to the foreign fabrics. Since they are cheaper then the foreign fabrics, which had the mean 3.8. Result also revealed that locally made fabrics have good qualities and could be used for home furnishing since they washed easily more than the foreign fabrics which had the mean 3.5 Data showed in the result that colour fade is one of the factors that could influence traders interest towards accepting the locally made fabrics which had the mean 1.9. It was recommended that government should provide funds for the procurement and installation of equipment and experts in order to enhance the quality and supply of these locally made fabrics.
