Mothers' Perception And Treatment Of Childhood Malaria In Umuahila South Local Government Area Of Abia State.

ABSTRACT

This project was designed to study mothers' perception and treatment of childhood malaria in Umuahia South Local Government Area. This came as a result of observation that treatment and control of malaria seem to decline in recent years in the zone leading to so much infantile mortality, despite. the introduction of new drugs and techniques in the treatment and control of malaria by research institutes in the country. Four hundred and thirty two (432) mothers were randomly selected from the Local Government Area. These were interviewed with structural and standardized questionnaires. Data collected were statistically analysed using simple statistical tools, such as percentages and Chisquare. Results showed that mothers working in health centres, those that attempted tertiary educational institute and those of ge group 50-59 years have significantly (P<0.05) better knowledge of the symptoms and treatment of childhood malaria and control of the disease in the area. Similarly, mothers living in the urban sectors of the local government Area have equally more correct knowledge about the symptom, treatments and control of the disease in the area.
