Innovations In Clothing Manufacturing In Aba South Abia State

ABSTRACT

The study was designed to investigate the innovations in clothing manufacturing in Aba South, Abia State. That objectives of the study were to find out the impact of modern technologies in clothing manufacturing factories and also to know the job opportunities created through the use of modern technologies in clothing manufacturing. 'l he population for the study was seven hundred and forty (740) and the sample size was three hundred seventy (370). The clothing manufacturers were randomly selected from Aba south. A validated questionnaire was used to collect relevant data. The data was analyzed using frequencies, percentages, mean and standard deviation. The findings revealed among others that about 60% - 90% are aware of modern technolo3ies in clothing manufacturing and 83% utilize them in clothing manufacturing. the finding also showed that the impact of modern technologies in clothing manufacturing was large scale of production (4.89). From the finding, the job opportunities created through tile use of modern technologies among others were sewing machine operators, embroidery machine operators and fashion designers which had the various mean score of (4 93), (4:92) and (4.86). The researcher recommends that there should be co-operation between the clothing factories, tertiary institutions and scientific institutions in order to make more research in clothing manufacturing and utilize the result to meet the clothing factories need. There should-be replacement of existing equipment in order to incorporate the modern equipment and tools for clothing manufacturing, in addition to this, the clothing manufacturing should participate in public lectures, workshops, seminars, con fences etc. in order to acquire more knowledge or future clothing manufacturing.
