Impact Of Information Technology On The Accounting System Of Commercial Banks In Nigeria (A Study Of First Bank Nigeria Plc, Umuahia, Abia State)

ABSTRACT

 Information technology in Nigeria banking system and operation has been acknowledged as the ljfe wire of banks in the financial sector as it promotes and facilitates the performance of banks in the country. The objectives of this study were: to determine the extent to which information technology has contributed to customer satisfaction and banks performance, to determine how skillful and knowledgeable the staff are in the use of information technology in commercial banks (First Bank) and to determine whether there is an increase in the level of efficiency and effectiveness of operations since the introduction of information and electronic technologies in commercial banking system. Blend of descriptive survey design was used for data generation with sample of 100. Data collected were analyzed using Statistical Packages for Social Sciences (SPSS), while the hypotheses were tested using the T-test statistical method and linear regression method. The study revealed among others that majority of the bank customers enjoy efficient and prompt service delivery by banks, because they can perform many transactions without having to visit the bank physically, and this is done via the use of Information Technology (IT) into banking operation. However, the study recommends that information technology should befullyfunded and should receive unconditional support from the management. It also suggests committee should be organized to monitor the implementation of information technology in the banking industry.
