ABSTRACT

Arisiolochia albida is an important medicinal plant which is used in traditional medicine to treat many diseases. The present study was carried out to investigate the effect of methanol extract of A. albida leaves on serum albumin, globulin, fasting blood sugar and lipid profile of alloxan-induced diabetic rats. Twenty-five female wistar rats were randomly divided into five groups. Group 1 (normal control) and ,group 2 (negative control) consists of normal and induced/untreated diabetic rats respectively, while groups 3, 4 and 5 were diabetic and treated with standard drug (glibenclamide), 50mg/kg and 100mg/kg body weight of extract respectively for two weeks.
