ABSTRACT

The purpose of this study is to assess the impact of financial control and accountability in public sector organization. The study was focused on the Abia State Ministry of Finance and the field of study approach was adopted in which primary data were collected using questionnaire and personal interviews. The secondary data used were text books pn financial control and accountability, journals, etc. the methodology used: simple percentage was used for analysis of research questionnaire, regression analysis for presentation and testing the hypotheses. The population is 187 and Taro-Yamane's formula was used to get the sample size as 127. While quasi-experimental are the types of research design adopted. The main findings of this research include: productivity in public sector organization is low because there is no effective financial adnflnistrative control. Increase in staff efficiency will help in the achievement of public sector organization's objectives. Staff transparency enhances effective financial control in public sector organization. In light of these findings, the following recommendations were made: To enhance the performance in public sector organization, the cOncept of transparency should be inculcated çind imbibed by the staff To enhance financial control and accountability, efficient accounting system should be adopted by the public sector organization. For the public sector organization to achieve their goals, competent staffs should be put in place.
