ABSTRACT

 A survey of the attitude of Home Economics students towards clothing construction was carried out in Michael Okpara University of Agriculture Umudike and Alvan Ikoku College of Education Owerri. The study was air.ed to evaluate students' attitude on clothing construction and to find out their previous knowledge on clothing and textile fundamentals and measures of improving students attitude towards clothing construction. A five point scale structured questionnaire was used, and was validated by five experts in Home Economics department. A total of one hundred and twenty respondents formed the study population. The data collected was statistically analyzed, with frequency, percentage, mean score and student t-test. The result shows that among the negative attitude of Home Economics students towards clothing construction were lack of interest, poor teaching methods, lack of equipment, lack of enthusiasm, lack of finance, it's time consuming, anxiety associated with it, lecturers are impatient and lack of previous knowledge. These have caused so much backwardness to the course. On recommendation, government should provide necessary equipment and accessibility to the students. Exhibition should be frequently organized to arouse students' interest to put in their best in clothing construction activities. Courses should be merged in the curriculum, so that students' would give more attention to this skill of clothing construction.
