Appraisal Of Local Government Finance And Accounting System (A Study Of Isiala Ngwa North Local Government Council Of Abia State).

ABSTRACT

This project work is design to assess the appraisal of local government finance and the accounting system in Isiala Ngwa North local government council of Abia State.In quest for accuracy and adequacy and due to the nature of this research work, data were collected using only secondary data and analyzedusing descriptive statistics and inferential analysis.In order to form a strong opinion, two null hypotheses were formulated and tested using correlation and t- statistics.It was found that there is a positive relationship between the government finances (LG) and the accounting system in IsialaNgwa North local government council of Abia State from the test conducted.It was also proven that the expenditure incurred by the local government council in their various jurisdiction are not large enough to be oticed on the total revenue generated by local government as a result of poor financial management , inadequate funds, disregard for financial regulations, and embezzlement of funds.Based on these findings, some recommendations were made which includes;Ensuring improvement in terms of internal revenue generation to solve the problem of reliance on federal allocation, to ensure prompt payment of staff salaries, prudence in financial resources management.
