ABSTRACT

The purpose of this study was to analysis the effects of Auditing in the growth and survival of government establishment with special focus on federal medical centre Umuahia. In pursuant of the above purpose, available literatures on the subject was reviewed and information necessary for the completion of the study were obtained from ('()7?if)l('I('(l (/I1('Slu)IlF?(lrr(' [r()nl (/1( 1V.S))071(1('Pl(.S, (171(1 i711('rl'i('1'. 'j1 total population. Jr the study was 240, while 150 is the sample size. The statistical techniques used for the analysis of data, and hypotheses testing were simple percentage and Chi - Square[X2/ test respectively. The findings established include; not all staff deployed to revenue section of federal medical centre Umuahia has a sound bookkeeping and accounting foundation. Both internal and external auditor gave useflul advice on financial matters to the management of the outfit. Based on the above findings; the following recommendations were made; the management of federal medical centre Umuahia should ensure that designated revenue officers are those with sound bookkeeping arid accounting foundation. The management of the hospital should always consult the internal audit unit and also make use of the advice given by the external auditors on certain issues.
